Sigue el Puerto Rico Sol Fútbol Club sumando jugadoras desarrolladas en el país campeón del mundo de la FIFA Femenina: Estados Unidos.

La Defensa Central estadounidense, Cydney Niedermeyer, es el nuevo fichaje de Shek Borkowski para el debutante club semi profesional de FutFem, con base en Mayagüez y Fajardo.

"She was a Sunshine State Conference Defender of the Year in 2016, She is 5'11", very good in the air and plays as a Center Defender," recalcó Borkowski, director ejecutivo y técnico del Puerto Rico Sol.

Cydney Niedermeyer fue una versátil y destacada atleta de escuela superior en Riverdale High School, en Fort Myers, Florida. Allí, además de ser la futbolista más laureada de toda la escuela, también se destacó en el voleibol y sóftbol.

"This is an incredible opportunity for me and a dream come true. I am extremely grateful and excited to be a part of this team. I am even more excited to be making history with these talented women I get to call my teammates," fue la reacción de Cydney al confirmarle a Shek su decisión de venir a jugar al Puerto Rico Sol.

Una vez graduada, Cydney estuvo tres años en Nova Southeastern University (NSU) en Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Allí llegó a ganar, en su año Junior, la distinción de la mejor jugadora defensiva de la conferencia - SSC Defensive Player of the Year-. Ese mismo año fue la única de su equipo en jugar en todos los 18 partidos.

Para su año Senior, Niedermeyer se transfirió a Temple University,

"Temple University was the most amazing experience. I learned more than I could have ever imagined about the game of soccer. I have the coaching staff and my teammates to thank for that," recordó Cydney.

"I would not be here with Puerto Rico Sol without there guidance and encouragement. Not only did I have a great experience with athletics but I also received an extraordinary education. Going to Temple University is an experience I wouldn't trade for the world," enfatizó la graduada de bachillerato en Ciencias, con concentración en Kinesiología.

Para Cydney será bastante cómodo adaptarse al clima en la Isla, ya sea en la costa este fajardeña, como en el litoral oeste mayagüezano.

"I am from Florida, and soccer is all we know. We have the perfect soccer weather 365 days out of the year and we took advantage of it every chance we got," aseguró la espigada defensa.

En su etapa juvenil pre universitaria fue parte del prestigioso programa Carolina Rapids.

"Playing for the Carolina Rapids gave me the opportunity to play and be coached by the most talented people. I grew as a player while improving my skills. It was a great time."

De este mismo programa de soccer salió la puertorriqueña Mia Thillet, quien está próxima a comenzar su carrera NCAA en North Carolina State University.

Con este fichaje de Cydney sigue creciendo formalmente la plantilla del 'Sol'. Las boricuas de NuestraSelePR, Karina Socarrás y Selimar Pagán fueron anunciadas en días recientes. A su vez, la futbolista del equipo nacional de Guatemala, Jennifer Muñoz, así como la estadounidense con experiencia en el West Ham inglés, Zoe Swift, también son miembros de esta familia.
