=== Suitable System of Play ===

"Since arriving in Puerto Rico, I have had a few questions about what system we will play. As a coach, you can't randomly pick a system. You always need to understand which system your players understand/are familiar with, which system fits your players’ abilities and which system will allow the collective to be effective. For a national team, it is even more complicated, because some players may be able to play a specific role very well in their clubs, but not on the international level, because the opponents are stronger, technically/tactically better and more experienced.

Then it is important to evaluate every player's strength and find for her the perfect position / role, in harmony with the system the whole team can play. It is pointless to copy a successful system that we know such as Barcelona or Real Madrid, if the players aren't familiar with it or are unsuited for it. It will become a risk, because the team will produce too many errors.

To play effectively, you need to be confident with the tactic and the system, you need to understand it in your sleep and move as a perfect unit. Once the foundation is established and mastered, then you have the freedom to develop the creativity you need to be successful internationally.

As a club coach, you have the time to focus on tactical training and can teach new systems because you work with your players every day. As a national coach, you're a bit more limited, because you only have a few training days. Sometimes that's enough, because you have players who learn fast and are hungry to learn. Sometimes it isn't that easy.

At the end of the day, every national team coach depends on the club's work. The players learn the most with their clubs. That's why cooperation and competition among the clubs is so important in every country, doesn't matter if we're in USA or Puerto Rico. That is why every country needs a national effort and cooperation between clubs and national team to improve futbol as a whole.
And in every country, we have to support the weaker clubs, help their young trainers to develop and help them to become stronger.

As a national coach you can help, by communication and most of all inviting young coaches to join the training.

A strong league makes a strong national team".
